NIGEE DREAMS Innovation Challenge award "Kazi kwa akina Dada"

The project aims at tapping into local opportunities to reduce unemployment among young women in Kisumu County.

It is a two year project which was initiated in October 2016 and will run through September 2018. It is being implemented in Kisumu County and targets secondary school graduates and young women aged between 18–24 years. Its core mandate is to link unemployed girls and young women to employment by first offering short courses to make them join the job market.

  • The project is been implemented in 7 Wards in Kisumu County
  • By July 2018, 5,007 AGYW were screened and 4,659 enrolled, of whom 3,383 have been linked to employment, internship and volunteer opportunities.
  • 14 NIGEE girls’ beneficiaries who completed secondary education were absorbed in this project as paid volunteers/interns where, as they work, they are mentored and trained to prepare them for better positions in future.
  • NIGEE has also established an Employment Bureau where vocational trainings are offered.
