How to volunteer or intern with NIGEE

NIGEE relies heavily on volunteers and interns. However, we do not pay for these services; all we offer is a small lunch allowance on days worked, and fares for public transport if assigned community-based duties. Please only apply if you are open and ready to support NIGEE free of charge while gaining valuable experience. 

Areas of interest to NIGEE:

  1. Community Work – includes visits to schools and homes of current and potential beneficiaries, identifying new donors towards school fees and school levies.
  2. Mentorship – training in education, counseling, social work – to support the beneficiaries by monitoring them in academic performance, providing guidance, being a role model and motivational speaker, organizing remedial lessons during the school holidays where needed, monitoring home environment (family support) and ensuring it is conducive for learning, providing counseling where needed, etc.
  3. Fundraising – helping with designing and implementing effective strategies to raise funds locally.
  4. Publicity and Website Maintenance –collecting newsworthy information and updating the site regularly, organizing publicity events, monitoring and analyzing site popularity, video recording and production, newsletter design and production, etc.
  5. Various –  supporting any aspect of managing NIGEE activities, wherever there is a gap. Examples:
      • Financial audit
      • Programmatic audit
      • Tutoring in any school subject during holidays – Primary 6-8; Secondary F1-4
      • Fundraising and proposal writing
      • Events planning – e.g., half marathons to raise funds
      • Agriculture, including poultry farming
      • Other areas of interest to NIGEE – go ahead and propose a new area and we will discuss its utility in achieving our goals.

    How to apply: Write an application and a detailed CV which includes academic and professional qualifications, work experience (if any) and positions held, and names of 2 referees.

    Also write a 2-page concept paper and indicate which of the areas above you are applying for, why you want to volunteer or intern with NIGEE, how your experience at NIGEE will contribute to your career development and how it will benefit NIGEE (preferably in concrete deliverables), and how long you intend to volunteer (minimum of 6 months required) or intern (minimum of 3 months required) with NIGEE. All interns and volunteers will be assigned specific roles and will be required to prepare monthly work plans as well as monthly progress reports and a final report at the end of the contract.
