The project intends to influence and change the existing societal norms/narratives undermining girls’ education and empowerment, including child marriage and FGM, through telling their own (girls) stories and engaging community members in dialogue. The project is being implemented within Kuria communities and overseen by NIGEE’s Girls’ Steering Committee. The committee has designed a girl-led media advocacy intervention which will spearhead transformation of societal beliefs and narratives towards girls’ education - The project has so far trained over 50 girls as advocates against child marriage and engaged 10 volunteer mentors who have so far supported 1,034 girls’ to access quality education and remain in school. The project has also reached 6,733 girls through school based mentorship programme in Kuria

The project will also enhance the power of story-telling through video clips, pictures and written narratives as a tool for advocacy in ending child marriage and championing girls’ rights to education then use the stories to showcase the successes of Girl-Led Initiatives intended to improve community livelihoods.
